Teacher/coach Jodie Schuller taking years of memories with her to Alma

Editor’s note: This is third in a series of stories on longtime teachers who are leaving Chase County Schools after this year.

When Jodie Schuller and her family pack up their final load and head to Alma in early June it will be with some fond memories at Chase County Schools.
This week is her final one as a teacher and coach here.
After 24 years in the school system, she’ll be remembered for her teaching of elementary physical education students, as an avid supporter of the Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart fundraisers and 23 years as head Lady Longhorn volleyball coach.
She’s accepted a teaching and coaching position at Alma Public Schools, a Class D1 school about 135 miles southeast of Imperial.
There, she’ll be teaching K-12 P.E. classes, and serve as head high school and junior high volleyball coach with some additional assistant coaching duties.
Her husband Cory will continue to work for Great Plains Communications in that area. Daughter Madison will be a senior at Alma Public Schools.
The move will put the family closer to Kearney and Lincoln (she’s a big Husker volleyball fan), with Harlan Co. Lake nearby, too. It will also take her closer to her mom in Axtell.
“I have a lot of good memories of P.E. classes, volleyball and coaching here,” Schuller said this week.
Too many of them to select just one as the best, she added.
As a physical education teacher at a time when youths aren’t exercising and getting outdoors like they used to, Schuller has a big goal in her classes.
“My goal is to get them running and exercising in P.E. classes so they don’t know they are exercising,” she said.
