Students parade with favorite books

It was almost like another Halloween Tuesday morning, but instead of only costumes on display, students in grades K-4 at Chase County Schools also paraded in the commons area carrying their favorite books. It was the fourth annual Book Parade to celebrate reading, said PTO President Amy Leibbrandt, whose group organized the parade. Many of the students dressed like the characters in their books. Above, Mary Fortkamp leads her kindergarten class through the commons area, as one of her students, Quinn Spady, pictured next, totes her book “Mary’s First Christmas” while garbed in a draping shawl. Third grader Conner Stromberger, below, depicts bearded Rockies baseball pitcher Charlie Blackmon with his book “Baseball Superstars,” and kindergartner Lyla Beth Chandler, pictured last, is all smiles as Fancy Nancy, her favorite book character.
