State FCCLA conference sending two CCS students to nationals

This year’s FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) state conference was held in Lincoln April 7-9.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Breaking Barriers,” said Chelsie Thayer, FCCLA advisor.
Nine students from Chase County Schools (CCS) attended the conference with eight competing in the STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition).
Those students were Heather Stumpff, (sophomore), receiving a Silver in Teach and Train, Sr.; Tristen Stumpff, (7th), also received a Silver in Illustrated Talk, Jr.; Adriana Gonzalez, (junior) a Bronze in Illustrated Talk, Sr.; Jorja Dannar, (junior) and Mercedes Peterson, (sophomore) in Life Event Plan, Sr. both received Silvers and Delaney Krutsinger, (freshman) received a Silver in Environmental Ambassador, Jr.
Gabrielle Krutsinger, (junior) received a Gold in Entrepreneurship, Sr. and Alexis Richmond, (sophomore) a Gold in Leadership, Sr.
Both Krutsinger and Richmond won State Championship honors and will move on to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California June 30-July 4.
Richmond was also elected to a State Peer Officer position on the Community Leader Team, said Thayer.
At state, she was required to take a test, interview and give a short presentation on a topic that was presented to her.
“Alexis did very well and is the Community Leader Teams’ 2019-2020 Chairperson and overall SPOT (State Peer Officer Team) Council Vice-Chairperson,” Thayer said.
“This is a great accomplishment for our chapter, as I believe she is one of our first State Peer Officers,” she said.
The local Chapter also received a Gold Chapter Award.
“The projects we carried out had to be between March 1, 2018 and Feb. 28, 2019,” she said.
Chapters must complete one project in each column for a Bronze award, two projects in each column for a Silver and three projects in each column for a Gold award, she said.
The columns included events in membership, leadership, promoting FCCLA and competitive events/programs.
“Mackenzie Soltis served as our voting delegate. She listened to State Officer Candidate interviews, and put our ballot in for who we would like to see as Nebraska’s State Officer team in 2019-2020,” said Thayer.
