Special board meeting to set superintendent interview process

School board members have set a special meeting for Monday to set direction on how the Chase County Schools superintendent hiring process will be done.
On Tuesday, the deadline for applying, Board President Jeff Olsen said 10 applications have come in for the 2020-21 position, some of which he said are quality applicants.
“I’m definitely excited about some of them,” he said.
Olsen said he expects part of the meeting to be in closed session as they talk specifics about the individual applicants.
From all the applications, he said it’s his plan to get the group narrowed down to four for interviews. He’d like the interviews to get scheduled sometime during the week of Jan. 6.
After the finalists are narrowed and he’s contacted them of their continued interest, Olsen said he’d release the finalists’ names.
Part of next week’s meeting that will be open to the public, he said, will include discussion of the interview process, scheduling interview days and questions to applicants.
Olsen said it’s important to get an early jump on filling the position so a potential hire can  give his/her current employer some time to hire a replacement, too.
“Most superintendent contracts go into the year after the current one,” he said.
The board hired Larry Lambert as interim superintendent in October to replace Randy KIooz, who resigned earlier that month. Lambert will finish the 2019-20 school year, with a new hire to serve in 2020-21.
Monday’s special meeting in the board room at the school starts at 5 p.m.
