School’s music program changing; Imperial native hired for P.E. job

New director to take on show choir; CCS reducing to one FFA advisor next year

More staffing changes at Chase County Schools came to light at Tuesday’s board of education meeting.
A new musical director for the 9th St. Singers was announced, along with the hiring of Imperial native Nathan Gaswick for the physical education position now held by Jodie Schuller, who resigned last month.
Principal Jon Lechtenberg (7-12) also confirmed the school will drop to one FFA advisor next year. There have been two advisors for several years.
Though it wasn’t discussed during the meeting, Principal Lechtenberg said high school English teacher Jill Bauerle will direct the 9th St. Singers show choir next year, replacing Randy Hayes.
With one less English class next year, Lechtenberg said the time for show choir will fit into her schedule.
A longtime CCS teacher Bauerle is directing the CCS spring play being held later this month, and is a former speech team sponsor.
Hayes resigned in February and said he plans to retire.
He’ll complete 36 years at CCS the end of this year, during which he’s been the school’s only director for the high school and junior high choruses and for both show choirs.
With Hayes leaving the program, Lechtenberg said current elementary music teacher Jodie Liess will have high school choir next year.
