One-act cast places fourth at SPVA, preparing for districts

Chase County Schools performed at the SPVA One-Act play competition at North Platte last week.
Students performed a drama called “The Case of Alex Hansen,” written by Alan Haehnel.
The one-act is directed by CCS teachers Jill Bauerle and Mary Fortkamp.
Placing ahead of CCS were Sutherland, Bridgeport and Hershey.
“Each judge gave us solid superior ratings, which shows the quality of the competition,” Bauerle said.
“The cast of 25 performed well and received positive feedback,” Bauerle added.
The judges at SPVA complimented the “strong characters” of CCS.
“Along with the positive, we received some constructive criticism. Our goal is to incorporate the suggestions and make the needed improvements between now and our district meet in order to be more competitive,” she said.
At the SPVA contest, Nike Smith, who played Judge, was named the Outstanding Actor of the conference.
“He definitely deserved it,” Bauerle said.
Halle Fiedler was also named to the all-conference cast for her role as D.L.
The cast and crew Wednesday this week at districts in North Platte.
“Three of the competitors went to state last year” in one-act, Bauerle said.
Those three schools, Ravenna, Gordon-Rushville and Hershey, were in three different districts last year, but are all in the same this year with CCS.
“It will be a tough day for the judges,” Bauerle said. “But we are up for the challenge.”
Other schools in the C1-6 District are Ainsworth, Bridgeport and Southern Valley.
