Musicians bring home a dozen Best of Conference awards

Chase County Schools’ vocalists and instrumentalists made their presence known last week at the SPVA Conference Music Contest in Sutherland.
A total of 12 Best of Conference (BOC) titles were earned by Chase County soloists, duets, small ensembles and its larger groups.
Eleven of the BOC designations were by CCS vocalists, while a clarinet quartet from Chase County was named best in that area in the instrumental divisions.
Each school could have up to 25 entries in each of the vocal and instrumental divisions. Sickness and ineligibility contributed to Chase County having below the entries they planned, both CCS directors said.
Randy Hayes directs the high school’s vocal program. Agnes Strand heads the instrumental department.
Next up for the musicians at CCS is the 5 West District Contest, which Chase County will host again this year on Friday, April 20.
Classes will not be held that day for students. Teachers will be on duty and will be assisting with the contest, Hayes noted.
Here are all of the vocal and instrumental entries at the April 20 contest in Sutherland.
