Milkin’ it

Second-graders at Chase County Schools participated in the Nebraska Farm Bureau Ag Pen Pal Program. Letters were written to a farmer-rancher in Nebraska to learn about their everyday lives and to encourage a better understanding of where food comes from. Arlys Cupp’s second grade class was matched with TJ and Jordan Ostermiller from Dundy County. The kids learned about fall harvest, caring for cattle throughout the winter, cattle feed and spring calving. The Ostermillers brought a newborn calf for the students to bottle feed, pet and observe March 21. Above, Shaylen Lempke feeds the calf with the assistance of TJ Ostermiller. (Courtesy photo)
