Mike Sorensen said there’s a special place in his heart for Imperial and Chase County.
So, when he learned of the 7-12 principal job opening at Chase County Schools, he decided to apply.
He and another candidate were interviewed last Thursday, and CCS board members elected Sorensen to the position Tuesday night.
He replaces second-year principal Jon Lechtenberg.
The principal’s position at CCS will not be new to Sorensen. He served as 7-12 principal here for nine years from 2006-2015.
Sorensen’s wife, Nancy, was hired in March as K-6 principal at Perkins County Schools in Grant. Her job in Grant will be her first as principal. She’s a former Chase County elementary teacher.
Sorensen said initially their plan was that he’d continue to live in Grand Island where he is Asst. Principal/Activities Director at Northwest, and Nancy would live in Grant.
But a couple weeks later, the CCS job opened.
“I was apprehensive at first. And, I received some calls,” he said.
They talked it over, and he decided to apply.
“Then, I got the job, and now we’re moving back west,” he said.
Sorensen said they spent nine years in Imperial and their two children graduated from CCS.
“It’s almost like home,” he said.
