Middle school teachers resign; board hires two for maintenance jobs

Three middle school teachers at Chase County Schools have resigned, and board members accepted their resignations on Tuesday.
Drew Ahlers, Brian Strand and Jenna Vogt will be leaving their elementary teaching positions the end of this school year.
Ahlers, who’s completing his third year at CCS, is a middle school reading/language arts teacher. He was also a junior high girls’ basketball coach and assisted with high school track. In his resignation letter, he said he has accepted a position at Columbus Lake-view Shell Creek Elementary School.
Vogt, also a third-year teacher here, was a special education instructor. She also was the high school’s asst. softball coach. She plans to return to eastern Nebraska to be closer to family. Having completed the minimum years of employment and meeting the deadline, she received the $1,000 stipend the board approved for early resignations.
Strand is completing his first year at CCS, and teaches grade 5-6 math, and helped with high school football. In his letter, Strand said he will be pursuing an alternate career.
Maintenance positions
Dallas Baney, who owns an appliance repair business in Champion, was hired Tuesday night as head of maintenance at CCS. He replaces Andres Huicochea, who moved.
Baney moved to the area after working as a tech/manager at Poudre Valley Appliance in Fort Collins from 2001-16. He’ll receive a salary of $51,000 per year.
Doug Reinke of Imperial was hired the school’s asst. maintenance head. He’s been involved in auto body repair work in Imperial for several years with The Auto Shop and Harchelroad Motors. Reinke will receive a salary of $26,000.
Both men will also receive family insurance benefits.
More on Tuesday’s school board meeting will be in next week’s issue.
