The Longhorn Way: STEM not just about robots, computers

What is this term they call STEM education and why is it important?
According to the U.S. Department of Education, “In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it’s more important than ever that our nation’s youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems. These are the kinds of skills that students develop in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines collectively known as STEM.”
Simply put, STEM is important because our world depends on it.
The terms STEM and “21st Century Skills” go hand-in-hand. STEM provides students the opportunity to create their own research questions and investigate several perspectives to connect ideas to solve a problem. Whether it is accomplished through the Engineering Design Process, the Design-Thinking Process or the Scientific Method, students collaborate with others, ask important questions, take leadership roles and test ideas to reach a solution.
In writing this article, like a true scientist, I did my research and in that endeavor, I stumbled upon an article, “Five Major Misconceptions About Stem - And What You Can Do To Combat Them” from code.likeagirl.io.
