Home town girl new high school science teacher

Elisha Hinojosa was born and raised in Imperial and graduated from Chase County Schools in 2008.
    She has a busy schedule at CCS this year. She is the new high school science teacher, co-sponsor for both National Honor Society and student council, plus the freshman class sponsor.
    Hinojosa received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2013. She was a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member, UNK Honors Program member and received the Dean’s Academic Excellence Award all nine semesters of school.
    She interned as a student teacher at the Dundy County Stratton Schools in Benkelman. Following completion of her internship, she was later employed there as a secondary mathematics and science teacher before coming to CCS.
    Hinojosa said she has always enjoyed being at school and loves to learn. She added that science was her favorite subject.
    “I liked the school environment, and I liked helping fellow students prepare for tests. It just seemed like a natural progression to become a teacher,” she said.
    She said that after teaching for a couple of years, she found that her goal was to find students who don’t enjoy school and help them find something that clicks with them that they could enjoy.
    Hinojosa’s plan was to move back home after finishing school, to be near family, friends and the community in which she was raised.
    “It’s been nice moving back home. I feel accepted and welcomed here. I have had lots of positive feedback and comments. We have a very supportive community,” she said.
    Hinojosa has been married six years to Abel, who works at Pivot Electric and is also a volunteer high school football coach. They have a 14 month old son named Avery.
    In their spare time, they are renovating their Enders home from top to bottom, she said.         When not working on their home, they enjoy watching Abel’s younger brother, Aaron, play high school football and compete in wrestling.
