Gyms closed for waxing, new walkway material laid

Addressed in his Activities Director report at the Chase County School board meeting July 9, AD Troy Hauxwell updated the board on the current status of the waxing of the Longhorn and Shorthorn gyms, as well as other projects.
The Longhorn gym was refinished on July 5, with the Shorthorn gym done on July 6.
Both gyms received two coats of Showtime urethane oil base finish.
“They still need to touch up a spot on the Shorthorn gym,” Hauxwell said. That will be finished this week.
“But you want to give the floors some time to settle before getting things like basketball carts and people on it,” he added.
To give both gyms finishes time to set, they will remain closed until July 22.
The auxiliary gym is open, since it’s “more of a laminate flooring,” Hauxwell said.
The cost of the Longhorn gym finishing came out at $3,070. The cost for the same job last year was $2,890. For the Shorthorn gym it was $1,925 this year and last year it was $1,850.
Walking track updates
The walking track in the Longhorn gym is receiving an upgraded flooring.
“It’s a four-coat process,” Hauxwell said. The flooring was scheduled to be completed Wednesday, “then we let it set a couple days, so roughly the same time frame as the gyms.”
