Five offered interviews for superintendent’s job

Interviews are scheduled to begin next Thursday for five candidates seeking the 2020-21 Chase County Schools superintendent’s position.
CCS Board President Jeff Olsen said two interviews are set for Thursday, Jan. 9, and three on Friday, Jan. 10.
All five interviews before the board will be open to the public, Olsen said.
Finalists’ names were not released Tuesday because Olsen was still making contacts with them after a special meeting Monday when the board narrowed the list of 11 applicants to the five for interviews.
Jan. 9 interviews in the board room are set for 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
The three interviews on Jan. 10 will be at 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
All five candidates will also be taken on tours of the school and community.
Olsen said after the fifth interview concludes on Jan. 10, the board will move into closed session to discuss all five candidates and possibly make a decision on an offer.
If they can’t come to a consensus that evening, he noted, the board has also scheduled a special meeting for Saturday, Jan. 11, at 9 a.m.
Action on the superintendent’s contract could possibly follow at the board’s regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 14, Olsen said.
“Most of the time we like to make a decision soon after the interviews when it’s fresh in our minds,” Olsen said.
The CCS board hired Larry Lambert as interim superintendent in October to replace Randy KIooz, who resigned earlier that month. Lambert will finish the 2019-20 school year, with the new hire to start in 2020-21.
