December TeamMate Mentor of Month chosen

Wrapping up the year for December’s TeamMate Mentor of the Month is Trent Herbert.
He has been a mentor for Dominic, a 7th grader at Chase County Schools, for two years.
As CCS’s previous co-coordinator of the TeamMates program, Herbert knew the great need for male mentors and decided to get involved in the program as a mentor as well.
“I enjoy providing a way to support kids as an extension of my day job and let my mentee know he has someone in his corner,” he said.
Herbert said he has to be sure to separate his school duties from his mentor role and just be a support when they meet.
He and Dominic enjoy playing games like chess and checkers when they get together each week.
Herbert serves as a guidance counselor at the high school level at CCS.
He and wife, Angella, have two children, Valerie and Zach.
In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, basketball and the outdoors.
As a mentor, Herbert said he enjoys spending time with and getting to know Dominic.
“It’s fun to see the connection grow on a level other than through my guidance counselor role,” he added.
