Brooke Schilke, an 8th grader at Chase County Schools (CCS), was chosen, by audition, to perform in the Singing Youth of Nebraska Honor Choir.
The event was held Jan. 11, at North Platte High School.
The choir consisted of 7th, 8th and 9th grade students from around the area, with Dr. Derek Fox from the University of Nebraska Omaha as guest conductor, said Jodie Liess, CCS vocal music instructor.
On Jan. 18, 150 4th, 5th and 6th graders, representing 14 Nebraska schools, met at North Platte High School for the Sing Around Nebraska performance.
There were 12 CCS students participating in the choir, Liess said.
The event is sponsored by the Nebraska Choral Directors on alternating years, she said.
“There are a number of sites held across the state in January and February with a Nebraska director chosen for each site,” she added.
The director for the North Platte performance was Kandi Stelling of Kearney, Liess said.
