CCS staff select March Students of Month

The staff at Chase County Schools (CCS) has voted. The  Students of the Month for March are Yeraldin Almanza and Trevor Peterson, both juniors.
Yeraldin Almanza is the youngest of four children.
Yeraldin, Abigail, David and Edgar’s parents are Omar and Gloria Almanza.
The Almanza family moved to Imperial from Holyoke, Colorado when she was two years old, she said.
Her favorite class this year is art.
“Even though the teacher is always nearby, we kind of work on our own at our own pace, and I like that,” she said.
Her favorite medium to work with is acrylic paint. The subject matter of her artwork is currently famous music artists, she added.
“Another thing I like about art class is when you are finished, you can take your work home and hang it in your room to enjoy, unlike most other classes,” she said.
Almanza is a member of the National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl and is in her third year as a cheerleader at CCS.
“When I look back on the last three years, the most special time that stands out to me is when I was a freshman and my sister, Abigail, was a senior, and we were both cheering together,” said Almanza. “It was so much fun and we grew closer because of it.”
She said she is still considering college and a career at this point.
She likes the idea of going into the field of dentistry as a dental assistant or hygienist. If so, she said she might attend Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte.
Currently, she works part-time at 509 Broadway.
This summer she said she will probably be working more hours, but Almanza is also looking forward to attending two concerts in July.
These two big events for her  will feature an Ariana Grande concert at the Pepsi Center in Denver, and American rapper, Post Malone, hosted by Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming, she said.
Trevor Peterson is the son of Bruce and Crystal Peterson of Imperial.
He has an older sister, Josie, a younger sister, Morgan, and a younger brother, Jaret.
Peterson is a member of the National Honor Society, part of the leadership team for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and competes in football, wrestling and track.
His favorite class is chemistry because it is challenging.
“I get a lot of satisfaction out of figuring out chemistry problems,” he said.
Peterson said a high point for him was when he won fourth in chemistry at the scholastics competition in North Platte this year.
He doesn’t know yet where he might attend college, but he said he likes working with his hands.
“Right now, I’m thinking I might like to work in fabrication with car body repair,” said Peterson.
When not in school, he is involved with the Berean Church youth group.
He has a busy summer planned working with Matt Vlasin landscaping, playing baseball and sports camps for football, wrestling and baseball.
