CCS speech team competes at Perkins County meet

The Chase County Schools speech team competed at Perkins County on Saturday.
Six speakers gave presentations, with the lone medal-winner being junior Tegan Towns.
Towns placed third in poetry with her reading on addiction.
Also competing in poetry were Grisledyi Ortega and Josh Starnes.
Other students at the contest were Brayan Cazares in entertainment speaking, and Ary Arteaga and Ashley Fregoso, who competed in duet.
“(Arteaga and Fregoso) have really impressed me with the amount of work they put into their duet,” Speech Coach Alex Schilke said. “They practice every day and push themselves to do better.”
Schilke is proud of the growth of the team.
“They are putting in the work to really improve their speeches,” she said.
Next on the schedule will be the Sutherland meet this Saturday.
