CCS graduate new teacher at Chase County Schools

Chase County Schools’ graduate Michaela Cochran has joined the ranks of educators in Imperial as a first grade teacher.
Cochran received her high school diploma from CCS in 2012. She then continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education in December 2016 with certifications in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Unified Endorsement.
While attending school in Kearney, Cochran pursued hands-on experience in working with children as a paraprofessional in the Kearney Public School system and as an after school paraprofessional at the Kearney Community Learning Center, as well.
After returning to Imperial, Cochran continued working with children at a local day care and preschool until becoming employed at Chase County Schools in January 2017 as a first grade substitute teacher. This position led to her achieving her career goal of becoming a full-time teacher, she said.
Cochran said she has always loved working with children. When she was young, she liked to babysit and help out at day cares. She tried to work with children any chance she got. Getting a teaching degree fulfilled a lifelong dream.
She added that the reason she loves teaching is because there is something new everyday.
“I like being part of the learning process and seeing their faces light up,” Cochran said.
She went on to say that her most memorable teaching experience was a result of her position as a substitute teacher last year. Now, this year, when those second graders still recognize her in the hall and call her by name, it makes her heart happy.
