We all can help resolve dog issue

I  will state right up front I am NOT a dog owner and never have been. I think if you own dogs, you should have a fenced yard (we do not) and be home enough to enjoy them (we are not). But that doesn’t mean dog-less residents, as well as those who do have them, shouldn’t have their voices heard on the issues in town.
And there are issues—dogs barking constantly, some who allegedly attack other dogs and dogs loose on the streets and in neighbors’ yards.
Most people are responsible. I’ll have to say those in my neighborhood, for the most part, are. But, there are always exceptions.
In case you didn’t know—Imperial has an ordinance against dogs running at large. If reported and caught, the owner can be fined. But, people need to report violations—don’t just complain the city or its police aren’t doing anything if you don’t report it. We all have a responsibility to do our part up front. In turn, if a violation is reported and found to be true, citations should be issued. And, dog owners need to take care that their dogs do not get loose. The mayor and at least one citizen will be meeting on her complaints—let’s hope some changes result.
A planned dog park in the community being spearheaded by Vanessa Cox could also help—that’s a project worthy of our support.
