Imagine what sharing the wealth could mean for Chase County

It’s amazing to think what can be accomplished in the future just by reinvesting 5% back into our community.

As a reader of this column, you know that I have been a big proponent of giving back to your community in whatever way you can.
You also know that I truly believe in the benefits of supporting the local community foundation funds in our county.
This week, the Nebraska Community Foundation released its third study in as many decades on the transfer of wealth that will occur in Nebraska over the next 10 to 25 years.
The amounts are staggering—$100 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “B”) over the next 10 years and more than $950 billion over the next 25 years.
What NCF wants to do is raise the awareness of the impact of reinvesting some of that wealth back into the communities where the wealth was created.
They’ve labeled the campaign “Five to Thrive.”
Let’s take a quick look at Chase County. Over the next 10 years, the study projects that $403 million of wealth will transfer from one generation to another.
The goal of the “Five to Thrive” campaign is to encourage sharing 5% of that wealth with the communities and counties where that wealth was built.
In Chase County, that 5% represents $20 million towards enriching the future for generations to come.
People should not leave it to chance that their heirs will plow some of that wealth back into the community for them.
By endowing planned giving now, donors can be assured they will be building for the future of their communities long after their death. In Chase County, NCF indicated there are already nine confirmed planned gifts that will endow nearly $350,000 back to our communities.
Sadly, in some cases, heirs no longer live in Chase County or have lost their ties here all together. So when that wealth leaves Chase County, it’s likely it’s never coming back.
That reenforces the need to plan ahead now. It’s amazing to think what can be accomplished in the future just by reinvesting 5% back into our community.
    Will you consider that?
