Floods a reminder of who’s in charge
As communities east and south of here continue to clean up and face road closings, it’s a reminder of who’s in charge, isn’t it? The constant rains in southwest Nebraska certainly caused some headaches and real panic in some situations, but I’ve long since learned that, in an ag community, you never should be heard singing, “Rain, rain go away—come again another day.”
However, that may be how many feel, especially as they clean out the mud from Palisade’s swimming pool or recall being stranded as water surrounded them.
Neighbors and volunteers, as well as our emergency response agencies, jumped right to work. There is no lack of volunteerism here when the need arises to help a neighbor or the community.
Last year we battled drought. Right now, we’re getting more rain than we want. Sometimes, it’s feast or famine, but we need to remember who’s in charge.
