William Boyd Mathews

William Boyd Mathews was born April 14, 1927, in rural Chase County, to William M. and Edna
Marie (Bremer) Mathews. In his young years he grew up in rural Chase County attending rural District #10 grade school.
Boyd (as he was known) went on to graduate from Chase County High School in 1945.
After graduation Boyd was turned down from serving during WWII because of his hearing, and took an opportunity to attend Colorado A&M on a track scholarship. He returned to Chase County after his graduation and began his long career in farming.
Boyd married Joan A. Monasmith on December 26, 1950, in Holyoke, Colorado, and the couple settled on the family farm nine miles west of Imperial. Raising their family and farming became their lifelong ambitions until retirement. Boyd and Joan retired and made Imperial their home.
Boyd passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Imperial Manor and Parkview Heights, Imperial. He was 93 years of age.
Survivors include wife Joan of Imperial, son Tod Mathews of Imperial, daughter Tammi Mathews of Oberlin, Kansas; four grandchildren: Ryan Butler, Josh (Sara) Mathews, Jake (Amanda) Mathews and Jeremy Mathews; four great-grandchildren: Ryker, Scarlett, Presley and Jackson; brother Byrdell Mathews of Houston, Texas, brother Gary (Joy) Mathews of Lake Kiowa, Texas; sisters-in-law: Fern McCoy of Arapahoe and Amy Monasmith of Imperial.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lavon (Bill) Pilchuk, Susie (Kent)Doetker, nephew Matt Pilchuk, sister-in-law Gloria Mathews, brothers-in-law Don Monasmith, John Monasmith and Dean McCoy and in-laws Marion and Ruth Monasmith
Private family services will be held Saturday morning, August 8th, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial, with Pastor David Kahle officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial at a later date.
No visitation; Boyd’s wishes were for cremation.
Memorials have been suggested to the Imperial FFA Chapter, Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial building fund, The Imperial Manor and Parkview Heights of Imperial, and the Community Health Care and Hospice of McCook.
