Wesley Wheeler

Wesley Samuel Wheeler was born June 19, 1923, on a farm north of Wauneta, Neb., to Walter S. and Laura M. (Fanning) Wheeler.
He attended grade school at Rural District #60 and went on to graduate from Wauneta High School in 1941.
Wesley married Marjorie Ellen Morse on May 20, 1945, at Champion. The couple made their home on the farm north of Wauneta where Wesley farmed and ranched all of his life.
Wesley served as president of the Imperial Valley Holiness Association for over 36 years. He was a member of the Hamlet Union Church of Hamlet for over 70 years. He was very active in the church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and president of the church board.
He became a member of Gideon’s International in 1952 and distributed Bibles to hotels and hospitals in the area, as well as giving testaments to fifth and sixth graders in school.
Wesley passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2017, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center, Wauneta. He was 94 years of age.
Survivors include wife Marjorie of rural Wauneta; sons Rod (Joy) Wheeler of rural Wauneta, David (Lydia) Wheeler of Yukon, Okla. and Dennis Wheeler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren: Anita (Todd) Colwell, Roxey (Matt) Martin, Marty (Renee) Wheeler, Rhonda Wheeler, Mark (Julie) Wheeler, Cynthia (Kevin) Stump, Jerome (Ann) Wheeler and Shannon (Shawn) Parrish; 26 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Lee (Myrth) Morse of North Platte; and sister-in-law Gerietta Morse of Imperial.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Keith (Violet) Wheeler, Francis (Dolly) Wheeler, Dr. Carroll (Mary) Wheeler, Donald (Lillian) Wheeler, Gerald (Frieda) Wheeler; sisters Opal (Rev. Harold) Ripper, Velma (Vernon) Crawford, Marvel (Fred) Miller, LaDene (Averill) Hudnall and Val Jean (Rev. Harry) Soper.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, Jan. 5, 2018, 10:30 a.m. CT at the Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, with Pastor Joshua Clark officiating.
Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, at 1 p.m. MT with Rev. Gary Hunt officiating.
Visitation was held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2018, 3 to 6 p.m. MT at the funeral home in Wauneta.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Gideon’s International.
