Vicki Sue Grimes was born Sept. 13, 1953, at Benkelman, Nebraska, to Jack W. and Verna M. (Brown) Sandman. Vicki attended public school in Wauneta graduating from Wauneta High School in 1971.
Vicki married Gary Lee Grimes on July 1, 1980, at Mount Zion Methodist Church of rural Wauneta, and to this union two children were born: Ashli and Jack (JD). The couple made rural Wauneta their home, where they continued to live until present.
Vicki was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wauneta. She had many hobbies including camping, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
She especially loved to be involved with her grandchildren by spending time with them or following them in their school activities. Vicki’s smiling face was a fixture at Crossroads Convenience Store in Wauneta where she was employed.
Vicki passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at her home in rural Wauneta. She was 65 years of age.
Survivors include mother Verna Sandman of Wauneta; husband Gary Grimes of rural Wauneta; daughter Ashli (Toby) Cox of Hayes Center; son JD (Rebecca) Grimes of Hayes Center; grandchildren Kyler, Kesli, Harli and Hudsyn Cox, Eli and Embry Grimes; brothers Bill (Deb) Sandman of Utica, Greg Sandman (Terista Morales) of Richmond, Kentucky; sister Jackie (Terry) Dewey of Grand Island; and brother-in-law Doug Allen of Herber-Overgaard, Arizona.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father Jack and sister Janice Allen.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with Pastor Elias Mukindia and Rev. Gary Hunt officiating.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
No visitation, Vicki chose cremation.
A memorial has been suggested to the Wauneta EMTs.
