Ray W. Wolgamott

Ray W. Wolgamott was born to Wayne and Fern (Wilsey) Wolgamott on Jan. 25, 1936 in Lexington, Neb.
He graduated from McCook High School and went on to Auctioneer school in St. Paul, Minn. Ray joined the United States Marine Corps on Sept. 22, 1955. He served his country for five years and was honorably discharged on Nov. 18, 1960; he received the Good Conduct Medal during his time in the Corps.
While in the Marines, Ray married Barbara Mae Lafferty on Jan. 25, 1958 in Trenton. To this union three daughters and one son were born: Alice, Jeannette, Valerie and Guy. The couple and their young family lived in California, Lexington, Cozad and the McCook area. Ray sold Farmers Crop Insurance, worked for a car dealership and sold welders and agricultural supplies. In 1973 he moved to Imperial and later marred Evelyn Sines.
Ray was a member of VFW Post 4688 of Imperial and the Odd Fellow Lodge. He enjoyed coin collecting, bartering and trading guns, providing auctioneer services at many area events, riding horses and was a member of the local bowling league.
Ray Wolgamott passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 13, 2017 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 81 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Fern Wolgamott and a sister, Norma Jean Yeager.
Survivors include daughters Alice Baxley (David Hamby) of Jackson, Miss., Jeannette (Jerry) Taper of Wyoming, Valerie Fulton of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son Guy (Courtney) Wolgamott of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Ardis Ruppert and Phyllis Ogg of McCook; and brother Roy (Carolyn) Wolgamott of Lincoln.
Funeral services for Ray Wolgamott were held at 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell with Pastor Dirk Weiss officiating. Interment took place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Visitation was Oct. 17 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in Ray’s memory.
