Mary Frances Vrbas passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook, Neb. She was 90 years old.
Mary was born on March 30, 1927 at Trenton, to parents Michael and Frances (Janousek) Keeney. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1945 and continued her education at Mary Mount College, Salina, Kan. She taught in country schools near Trenton.
On Sept. 13, 1948, she was united in marriage to Charles Vrbas at St. Patrick’s Catholic in McCook.  They made their home on a farm near Trenton. In 1966, they moved to a farm in the Palisade community. Together they raised seven children.
Besides being a busy mother and farmwife she raised white rabbits and sheep. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Michael and Frances Keeney; husband Charlie Vrbas on April 22, 2009; son Lawrence Vrbas on July 29, 2003; sister Eileen (Martel) Schroeder; and brother James Keeney.
She is survived by her children Thomas (Ellen) Vrbas of Oak Harbor, Wash., Dennis (Tina) Vrbas of Benkelman, Bryan (Julie) Vrbas of Palisade, Jeannie (Kris) Kressin of Hayes Center, Tammy (Paul) Vincent of Long Island, Kan., Gayle (special friend Nicole) Vrbas of Imperial and daughter-in-law Susan Vrbas (Roger) Moreau of McCook; 17 grandchildren, Ryan Vrbas, Staci (Jason) Meyers, Katie (David) Anthony, Bethany (Josh) Rolstad, Christopher (Amanda) Vrbas, Tifany (Terry) Glasco, Austin Vrbas, Kelsie (Jared) Brooks, Heath (Miranda) Vrbas, Kaila and Kirstin Kressin, Zach, Ian and Shayna Vincent, Ally, Kadin, and Ryley Vrbas; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Norma) Keeney of Trenton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in her name and directed to Hillcrest Nursing Home.
Memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Inurnment followed at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 2:30 p.m..
Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook was entrusted with arrangements.
