Lois M. Wine

Lois Marie Frantz Wine passed away on June 7 in Overland Park, Kansas.
Lois was born to David and Anna Brubaker Frantz on March 20, 1928, in Holmesville, Nebraska. She was the fifth of six children. Her mother died when Lois was young, and the family was later joined by stepmother, Bertha Albin.
Lois was the valedictorian of her high school class of eight, and later went on to earn a BA degree in Education from McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas, and an MA degree in Education from Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska.
Lois married Marlin Wine on October 6, 1951, and they shared 67 years of love and happiness, as well as the raising of two children.
Lois spent 35 years in elementary education – 2 in Friend, Kansas, and 33 in Wauneta Public Schools in Nebraska. Her career included many different areas: third grade, elementary music, elementary physical education, fifth grade, sixth grade, Junior High language arts, Title I reading, kindergarten and library. She often said she enjoyed the variety!
Lois was a life-long member of The Church of the Brethren, spending many years in the Enders, Nebraska, congregation where she served as Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and church pianist for many years. After moving to the Kansas City area in 2005, she greatly enjoyed the faith and fellowship of the Olathe Church of the Brethren, where she also continued to play the piano and serve as deaconess.
Anyone who spent time with Lois quickly learned she was always concerned about others, especially those in need. Over the years she made many quilts to donate to Project Linus, which gives blankets and quilts to children in need. Lois also made countless counted cross stitch pictures that were given to homeless women and victims of domestic violence.
These activities continued after the loss of her husband, Marlin, on December 5, 2018. She treasured the friendships she had made at her Garden Villas retirement community, where she also found ways to contribute her piano playing.
Lois especially enjoyed her later years in the Kansas City area because it brought many opportunities to spend time with her beloved children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Wine; parents, David Frantz, Anna Frantz, and stepmother, Bertha Frantz; her brothers, Ivan Frantz, Milton Frantz; and her sister, Hazel Turner.
Survivors include son, David (Sharon) Wine of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter, Marlene (George) Wine Chase of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters, Jennifer (David)Pieper and great-grandson, Jack, of Lenexa, Kansas, Tiffany (Dan) Jones and great-grandsons Porter and Keller of Roeland Park, Kansas; Shannon (Cody) Krueger and great-grandsons, Samuel and Wade, of Abilene, Kansas; and grandson, Brant (Jaimee) Hartenstein and great-granddaughter, Braylea, of Warrensburg, Missouri; brothers, Elvin Frantz, of Buena Vista, Colorado, and Loren (Evelyn) Frantz of Palmyra, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by many well-loved nieces and nephews and their families.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Olathe Church of the Brethren on June 16. The family is planning a future gathering of friends and family in the Chase County area to share stories and memories of both Lois and Marlin.

Lois’ warm kindness and many acts of loving service will be greatly missed by all who loved her, and we trust her generous spirit will continue to nourish us.
