Leonel Ruperto Torres was born March 27, 1943, in Santo Tomas, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Gabriel Torres and Inez Arreola. He grew up and attended school in Mexico.
Leonel married Lucinda Marquez on Sept. 18, 1986, In Ignacio Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico. The couple settled in several communities in Mexico, before moving to Winslow, Arizona. They then made their home in Imperial, Nebraska.
Leonel was a landscaper by trade and owned and operated his own landscaping business. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, dancing, singing, and he especially, loved being with his family and friends.
Leonel passed away Oct. 15, 2020, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. He was 77 years of age.
Survivors: Wife, Lucinda (Marquez) Torres of Imperial; Son, Leonel Torres and wife, Norma, of El Paso, Texas; Daughter: Elizabeth Torres Acosta and husband, Manuel, El Paso, Texas; Daughter: Beatriz Torres and husband, Juan Pineda, of El Paso, Texas; David Torres, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Daughter, Naohmi Torres of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Son, Samuel Torres of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Son, Rafael Torres and wife, Alondra, of Imperial; Daughter, Rosalia Torres and husband, Mario Saenz, of Yuma, Colorado; Brother, Pascual Torres and wife, Virginia Benally, of Winslow, Arizona; Grandchildren, Michelle, Norma, Monique, Lionel, Kristen, Desiree, Manuel Jr., Jacob, James, Sophia, and Asiel; and Great-grandchildren, Jessiah, Jaylene, Jaxon, Julian, Jason, Aiden, Darlene, Jesus, Jose, Lilian, Lauren, Aileen, Ezikiel, Zechariah, Erin, and Kamila.
Leonel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Enrique Torres, Roberto Torres; sisters, Yolanda Torres and Carolina Torres.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Imperial with Father Lothar Gilde officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, 2-6 p.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church of Imperial.
A rosary was recited Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, 7 p.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church of Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Torres Family for a future designation.
