Irvin Dale Long was born Aug. 22, 1935, at Imperial, Nebraska, to Winifred H. and Hazel E. (North) Long. Irvin grew up in Chase County and graduated from Elsie High School, Elsie. Irvin assisted his parents on the farm and  worked for farmers in the their area. 

Irvin married Thelma J. Siefken on March 12, 1955, in Benkelman. The couple settled in Wauneta, and then Lincoln where Irvin was employed in construction.

He joined the Nebraska Games and Parks Department in 1975, moving near to the Red Willow Reservoir, North of McCook. Irvin became the Southwest Nebraska Reservoir Supervisor retiring from the department in 2006.

Irvin enjoyed the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were primary hobbies. He loved to collect and repair old clocks as well as being on a bowling team with friends. He was a lifetime member of the Moose, Eagles, and the NRA organizations.

Irvin passed away from a long battle with heart disease on Friday, April 3, 2020, at his home in rural McCook. He was 84 years of age.

Survivors include wife Thelma of rural McCook; daughters Jean Thomas (Fred) of York, Jacqua (Jackie) Georges (Randy), of rural McCook, Jody French (Duane) of Sioux City, Iowa, Terry Landolt and friend (Mike Kahler) of Sutton; son Billy Long (Leann) of Waco; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Penny Ritchie; grandson, Shawn Ritchie; an infant sister; brothers Marion and Bud Long; sister-in-law Millie Long; brother-in-law Jerry Siefken; parents-in-law Art and Lois Siefken.

Funeral Services are pending and will be at a later date.

Memorials have been suggested to the Long Family for designation at a future date.
