George ‘Slim’ Browning

George “Slim” Oliver Browning was born June 13, 1930, to Homer Eldon and Alice Margaret (Terwilliger) Browning in Imperial, Nebraska. He died Aug. 31, 2018, at Regent Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Holyoke, Colorado at the age of 88.
Slim graduated from Chase County High School in 1948. He joined the Navy on Dec. 30, 1950, and served until Oct. 12, 1954. He served during the Korean War on the USS Mount McKinley as a damage controlman.
On Jan. 6, 1957, Slim married Lawana Lou (Boller) Browning in Holyoke, and to this union, a daughter, Pam, and a son, Richard, were born.
Slim farmed for multiple parties, including family, and also farmed for himself. He drove a fuel truck and worked in the elevator for Reimer-Smith Grain Company and the elevator at Corn Inc. He also worked at an upholstery shop.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He loved spending time with and vacationing with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Slim was selected for the Honor Flight in May of 2017. He had the privilege of visiting numerous memorials with fellow veterans in Washington, D.C. He was also a lifetime member of VFW #6482 in Holyoke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alice Browning; brother Ralph L. Browning; sister Naomi F. Browning; brother Glen E. Browning; sister Alice Marie (Browning) Kubal; and brother Jack L. Browning.
Slim is survived by his wife Lawana L. (Boller) Browning of Holyoke, Colorado; daughter Pam R. (Frithjof “Fritz) Dammann of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son Richard E. (Debra) Browning of Sterling, Colorado; brother Charles “Chas” Browning of Imperial; sister Elsie (Browning) Coen of Holdrege; grandchildren Mason J. (Tina) Reed of Kearney, Collette (Michael) Shifflett of Dickinson, North Dakota, Christopher  (Amber) Browning of Ramona, California and Courtney N. Dammann of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great-grandchildren Bryson, Natalie, Eythan, Elizabeth, Nova, Joshua, Sylus, Jackson and Avery; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was Wednesday, Sept. 5, at First United Methodist Church of Holyoke, Colorado with Pastor Al Strauss officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Cemetery.
Baucke Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
