Funeral Services for Dwayne C. Newman will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Jean Clayton officiating. Interment will be held in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Imperial following the funeral at 1 p.m.
Military honors will be provided by the Andrew Kinder VFW Post #4688 in conjunction with the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team. A time of fellowship will be held in Champion following the burial.
Dwayne Cecil Newman, 82 years of age of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Bryan Medical Center—East Campus in Lincoln.
Dwayne was born Feb. 10, 1937 in Chase County, west of Champion, the youngest of two children born to Cecil and Cleopa (Mead) Newman.
In 1958, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Joyce E. Davison, at Chanute, Illinois. To this union four sons were born: Dan, Dean, Darren and Delwin.
Dwayne served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. After serving in the Air Force, the family made their home in Imperial until 1965, when they moved to Holdrege.
While in Holdrege, Dwayne served as Phelps County Sheriff until his retirement after 38 years of service. Following retirement, Dwayne enjoyed working for the city of Holdrege in the parks and recreation department. One of his favorite past-times was walking the ditch across from the Holdrege Country Club collecting golf balls
On Dec. 29, 2010, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce. Besides his wife, Joyce, Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Darren Jay Newman; sister Jerry Phelps; and sister-in-law Farris Bernard and her husband, Howard.
He leaves to celebrate his life his three sons: Dan (Kristi) Newman of Axtell, Dean Newman of Loomis and Delwin (Lisa) Newman of Salina, Kansas; three granddaughters: Tailer Rogers, Darienne Newman and Shelby Newman; great-grandson Isaac; brother-in-law Stanley (Betty) Davison of Garden City, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Dwayne’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
