Colleen Ann (Forsbeck) Kinder was born Sept. 3, 1929 at home in Gorham, Kansas, to the late Ansel and Ruffina Forsbeck. A life-long Missouri Synod Lutheran, Colleen was baptized on Sept. 29, 1929, in Gorham, Kansas, by Rev. E.H.L. Frese, and confirmed on April 23, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas, by Rev. W.A. Meyer.
Shortly after her father’s death, the family moved to Imperial, Nebraska, in 1945, where she started at Chase County High School as a sophomore. She graduated from CCHS in 1947.
Colleen worked at Luhrs & Reynolds Furniture and Norman & Peterson Appliance. On Oct. 8, 1950, she married Wayne Dee “Rusty” Kinder. She worked as Executive Director of Sunset Homes for the elderly for more than 17 years.
Colleen and Rusty opened and operated two catalog stores in Imperial, the Montgomery Wards, and then JC Penney, until they retired in 2005. Colleen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for many decades, she sang in the choir, participated in ladies’ groups and enjoyed studying the Bible, especially with the Women’s Bible Study. Colleen’s hobbies were reading, knitting and crocheting. Her handiwork has been shared over many generations, with her beautiful handmade baby blankets and sweaters enjoyed by many lucky family members and friends.
Colleen passed away Friday morning, Oct. 11, 2019, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was 90 years of age.
Survivors include her brothers Donald Forsbeck of Austin, Texas, Gary Forsbeck of Kansas City, Missouri; son Kurt (Debbie) Kinder of Kansas City, Kansas; daughters Shari (David Campanella) Kinder of Kansas City, Missouri, Jannean Kinder of North Platte, Risa Kinder of Sidney; grandchildren Tjjohn (JD) Frahm of Kearney, Megan (Tim Smith) Kinder of Johnston, Iowa, Zachary Kinder of Kearney, Aaron (Harmonie) Hawes of Kansas City, Kansas, Amber Cline of Gardner, Kansas; great-grandchildren Garrett Dondlinger, Logan Frahm, Cooper Smith, Jackson Smith, Aaron Evan Hawes, Jacob Cline, Aubrey Cline, and Josiah Cline; great-great-grandchildren Georgia Kreutzer, Kamryn Burgason; special friend Patti Kinder, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
In addition to her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, W. D. “Rusty” Kinder, and sister Betty Joan Forsbeck.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Imperial, with Pastor David Kahle officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Colleen’s memory to the New Building Fund at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial.
