Carolyn Yvonne Corder (Haarberg)

Carolyn Yvonne Corder (Haarberg) was born n April 1, 1937 in rural Wauneta Nebraska, she was the middle of six children. She came from humble proud beginnings and often spoke of her time on the farm pumping water to heat on the stove for their shared bath, using an outhouse or throwing bales of hay.  She referred to herself as being “tough pioneer stock” and bragged about that fact until the day she passed.  At the age of 16 the family moved from Nebraska to Turlock California. Her mom ran a seamstress shop and her father became a custodian at the high school.  By the age of 18 Carolyn had obtained an emergency teaching credential and was working in the Hughson School District.  Over the course of her teaching career she taught in Hughson, Tracy, Lincoln and finally Linden School Districts.  She spent the bulk of her time teaching in Linden.  Forty years to be exact, retiring (sort of) in 1998.  She believed that everyone she saw around Linden had to be a former student or the child of a former student and was always so happy to run into anyone that fit that description.  She remembered them all.  Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest accomplishment.
She was the best mom, sister, aunt, cousin, grams, Gigi or friend a person could ask for. She was mom or grams to everyone her kids or grandkids brought home and loved us all with her whole heart. She was always the biggest supporter in whatever you were doing and also quick to give you her wisdom and thoughts on all subjects and the absolute best keeper of our secrets. You could confide in her about anything. Life slowed down after retirement and although she would still take on the occasional tutoring job, she spent her time crocheting, playing sudoku or games on her phone.  It was a rare occasion that you could beat her at a game of Words with Friends and you were never going to beat her high score on 1010. She loved to scroll through her Facebook and Instagram and track her family on Find my.   She would text you to welcome you home after a trip as you drove into the driveway. Sometimes annoying but so sweet all the same.  In recent years she had moved from Linden back onto her property on White Lane and was loving being “back home”
Carolyn passed away on June 11, 2026 and is preceded in death by her husband Dave Corder, parents Fred and Nellie Haarberg, and siblings Delbert, Lila and Evelyn, nephew Rodney and niece Debbie.
She is survived by her two children Bennett  Corder and Catherine Orr, 7 grandchildren (Jennifer, Jill, Lena, Alan, Cody, Emily and Charles) and 6 great grandchildren (Emma, Finley, Logan, Winston, Millie and Zia), siblings Lucille and Edwin and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday July 25, 2026 at the Lions Club in Linden.
