Byrdell Bremer Mathews

Byrdell Bremer Mathews, 90, originally from Imperial Nebraska, passed away on Feb. 28, 2021. He was born to William and Edna Mathews and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gloria who passed January of 2020.
After college, Byrdell joined the Navy and was a member of the first Helicopter Squadron based on a Navy ship. He was awarded the Air Medal for 20 flights behind enemy lines during the Korean War and after five years of service was honorably discharged.
Soon after the Navy, Byrdell married Gloria Vandyke of Enders and moved to Houston, Texas. He was active in the Shriners, Boy Scouts as a Scout Master, Methodist Church of The Woodlands, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was an avid aviation enthusiast, built half a dozen airplanes and piloted them all over the USA and Canada.
Byrdell is survived by his two sons Craig and Kevin; their spouses Jeri and Molly; four grandchildren; and his brother and sister in-law Gary and Joy.
