Gordon Ray “Bill” Jaeger was born June, 24, 1938 in Imperial, Neb., to Raymond “Pat” Adam Jaeger and Delma Leota Brown.
Bill graduated from Chase County High School in 1957 and entered the U.S. Army and served from 1958 to 1962. Upon returning from the service, Bill worked various jobs with the city of Imperial.
Bill married Janice Kerchal on June 20, 1964 and to this union were born two children, son Destry and daughter Crystal.
The couple made their home in Imperial, where Bill served as Chase County Sheriff from 1966 to 1994. The couple purchased the Goldenwest Motel in 1992 and operated the business together until Bill officially retired in 2005.
During his life and through retirement Bill enjoyed raising registered paint horses, leather crafting, working puzzles, yard work, Western music, a good ol’ Western movie and the game of baseball.
Bill passed away Sunday morning, May 28, 2017, at the Chase County Community Hospital surrounded by his family. Bill was 78 years of age.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Delma; sister Sharon Jaeger; and brothers-in-law Jim Thompson and Oliver Befort.
Bill is survived by wife Janice; children Destry (Kim Adams) of Lincoln and Crystal (Bruce) Peterson of Enders; six grandchildren: Alex and Carlie Jaeger, Josie, Trevor, Morgan and Jaret Peterson; and sisters Patty Thompson of Imperial, Delores Befort of Mead, Colo., Joyce Roesener of Imperial and Marla (Darty) Schilke of Imperial.
A graveside service will be held on June 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, with Military Honors provided by VFW Post # 4688 of Imperial.
Honorary escorts include grandchildren Alex and Carlie Jaeger, Josie, Trevor, Morgan and Jaret Peterson.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial baseball program
