Bettie Ruth Knapp

Bettie Ruth Knapp was born Dec. 27, 1930, in rural Haigler, Nebraska, to William C. and Rosalie B. (Pugh) Perry.
As a youngster, Bettie attended rural country grade school and went on to graduate from Parks High School in 1948.
Bettie married Tommy Doyle Knapp on July 27, 1952, in North Platte. The couple first resided in Hawaii and then in many other locations throughout Doyle’s 26-year navel career. Bettie and Doyle returned to southwest Nebraska in 1977 and made their home in Imperial.
Bettie had a long career with Safeway Grocery before moving back to Imperial.                     

Bettie was a very active member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Aerie #3742 of Imperial, holding many different offices including president.
She was very well known statewide for assisting Doyle in his efforts serving in Nebraska State Eagle positions. She was a tireless workforce every year in the Chase County Eagles Fair Booth. Bettie was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4688 of Imperial.
She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers which was very evident around their home.
Bettie passed away early Sunday morning, Sept. 2, 2018, at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland. She was 87 years of age.
Survivors include brother Dean (Betty) Perry of Wray, Colorado; sister Alta Mae (Ivan) Sterry of Presho, South Dakota; nieces and nephews Kathy Quiggle, Joyce Larson, Stanley Perry, Debra Axt, Denise Zuege, Richard Sterry, Darrel Sterry, Donna Straut, Michelle Peck, Terie Wilson, James Roberts, Rick Perry, Chris Sponie, Michael Sponie, Denise Gibb and Paula Scheil;  31 great-nieces and nephews; 35 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doyle; brothers Carl, Everett, Robert, Arthur, Elton, Dale, Charles and James; and sister Phyllis Harmon.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial.
Interment will follow at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
Visitation will be held before services starting at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Imperial Eagles Aerie #3472 and the VFW Post #4688, both of Imperial.
