Saturday night, April 18, the Nebraska Press Association held it’s annual awards banquet at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel in Lincoln Ne. The Imperial Republican was informed that they where to receive seven awards.
The Republican competes in division C with other newspapers that have similar distribution numbers. Two first place awards were presented for: Entertainment Story, (Fair entertainment announced) with the judges noting, “A well-designed page that highlights the upcoming Chase County Fair entertainment!” , and single ad/color (Lighthouse food/Eastern Sky tires), which judges commented had a great arrangement of photos and detailed information.
Three second place awards were received for: Newspaper organized/sponsored event (city wide garage sale), Color ad under 1/4 page (fish fry), and agricultural advertisement (Raile Cattle Company).
Judges commented on the fish fry ad that it was a “cute ad with fun graphics and a perfect use of color.”
The Republican received two third place awards for: News Photography (flooding in Imperial) and Front page (July 31).
The Flooding photo was captured last summer, and showed a boy floating down the street in a canoe.
Judges noted that the Front page that was awarded third place had a “nice clean look. Love the briefs with artwork along the fold!” and said it was a great layout.
A big thanks goes out to Samantha Goff of High Plains News North/The Grant Tribune Sentinel for putting the entries together for submission.
