The Chase County Longhorn journalism program is celebrating a major achievement as three students have qualified for the NSAA Class C State Competition, showcasing both individual and team success.
Seniors Paige Nickless and Miranda Spady, along with junior Annabelle Kimble, have earned their place at state after performances across multiple different categories. All three students qualified not only in individual events, but also as part of the Yearbook Theme Development team. This event is for the Yearbook Production class, where they build a book with a theme and design elements.
Nickless qualified in three individual categories: Feature Photography, Photo Artistic Illustration, and Yearbook Layout. Spady earned a state qualification in Advertising, in addition to joining Nickless in Yearbook Layout. Kimble secured her spot at state in Yearbook Theme Copy Writing, further contributing to the team’s success in theme development.
The Chase County Yearbook Advisor, Marrissa McDaniel, said she was very impressed with her students. “I really have enjoyed working with this yearbook class. I was very excited to see how many entries we had this year, so close to qualifying, and many of our entries that did qualify have superior rankings for the preliminary contest,” McDaniel stated. “I am really looking forward to continuing to grow our yearbook program in the future.”
The trio will travel to Norfolk this Sunday for the state contest, which takes place Monday, April 27. Competition events will begin at 8:00 a.m. Central Time, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Central Time.
