On Friday morning, there was a two vehicle accident a couple miles east of Imperial on Highway 6. A semi truck and an SUV traveling opposite directions, nearly side-swiped one another, busting the drivers side mirror off the SUV. No injuries were reported.

Deputy Sheriff brings chase to a stop

    Sunday night, April 12 at approximately 7:50 p.m., an officer of the Holyoke Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle that was not displaying a license plate on East Denver Street in the City of Holyoke.
    When the officer turned on his lights, the motorcycle continued eastbound on Denver Street at a slow speed and refused to stop.
    Additional police units were dispatched to the scene. When the motorcycle entered the construction zone near South
Worley Avenue, it rapidly accelerated to speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.
    The officer initiated a short pursuit, but terminated the chase after losing sight of the bike.
    The Chase County Sheriff’s office was notified of the motorcycle heading towards Imperial and was able to locate the bike on Highway 6, heading towards Imperial.
    The deputy continued to follow the bike into the Imperial city limits, where the bike continued to travel at extreme speeds.
    Eventually, the rider lost control just south of Imperial, and crashed his bike. The driver was identified as 52-year-old Gerome Cummings of Longmont Colorado.
    Cummings was transported to the Chase County Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges were pending at the time of publication.
    Friday morning, the IVFD and Imperial EMS were called to a wreck east of Imperial on Highway 6.
An eastbound semi truck and westbound SUV nearly sideswiped one another, breaking off the drivers side mirror from the SUV. No injuries were reported from the accident.
