Local and area youth participated in the Plains Tsunami swim league this past summer. There were 29 teams from Kansas, Colorado and all over Nebraska.
In the final meet of the year, there were a couple of local youths that set new records in their respective events.
Cambell Kline, (daughter of JR and Charlesa Kline), broke the 14 and under, 100 m individual Medley record, finishing with a time of 1:18.81. The previous record of 1:20.08 was held by Reece Holscher of Kearney, set in 2021.
Ridley Brinkema, (son of Ross and Aly Brinkema), set three new records at the meet. Ridley swam a 1:15.12 in the 14 and under Individual Medley, breaking the previous record of 1:17.34, set by Kevin Bantam of Frontier County in 2021.
He also set new records in the 14 and under, 50m and 100m Freestyle. He swam a 27.60 in the 50m and a 1:02.31 in the 100m, breaking the records of 28.56 and 1:04.80, set by Phalon Sanford of Benkelman in 2013.
All area youth are encouraged to find a summer program to participate in next year.
