W/P qualify nine girls and two boys for State

    Wauneta/Palisade competed in the D-7 District Track Meet held in Bertrand Wednesday, May 14. As a team, both the boys and girls finished in seventh place out of the 11 team field.
    The big difference was that the girls qualified nine participants for the State Meet and the boys only qualified two.
    For the boys, Dravin Miner finished third in the discus, with a throw of 141’ 4” to qualify. Aden Acton finished second in the high jump, clearing 6’ 2” to punch his ticket to Omaha.
    On the girls side, Annaly Ramirez qualified in the 1600, finishing in fourth with a time of 5:48.31 and was also part of the third place 4x800 relay. Emma Acton finished third in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 17.42 and was part of the fifth place 4x100 and 4x400 relays, which got in on times.
    Mesa Cox took third in the shot put, throwing 34’ 11.75” and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay. Kamryn Fanning and MaKenna Doetker rounded out the 4x100 relay team who finished with a time of 52.27.
    Addalyn Einspahr and Jewel Holthus both ran legs of the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Molly Yearous ran the other leg of the 4x400 relay that finished fifth with a time of 4:23.83. Andrea Almanza rounded out the 4x800 relay that finished third with a time of 10:38.23.
    The State Track Meet will be held at Burke Stadium in Omaha on May 23-24 for class C and D. Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday, while running events begin at 1:30 p.m.
