Thursday, March 27, the Longhorns’ Track Teams traveled to Grant for the Perkins County pre-season track meet and came home with both teams finishing first. Since this is a pre-season meet, Grant allows as many entries into each event as a school wishes to enter, therefore Chase County has a huge advantage with the number of students in each event.
Boys Head Coach, Carl Zuege noted that two of his team broke long standing school records Thursday. Kole Clevenger jumped 22’ 8” in the long jump, breaking the previous record of 22’ 1”, held by Cody Williams from 2017.
Noah Rau set a new discus throw record with his throw of 177’ 10”, besting Chris Bessler’s old record of 165’ 11”, set in 1990.
Conditions were perfect for a track meet with no wind and  the temperature staying about 85 all day. Next Saturday, April 5, both teams will travel to Ogallala for the Ed Moore Invitational. Chase County was moved up into Class B for track this year.
This will be a better gauge of the team and where they stand against similar sized schools in their class B-6 District. Gothenburg, Cozad, Sidney, Ogallala, Chadron and Alliance will all be competing in Ogallala and are all in Chase County’s District.
McCook, Gering and Scottsbluff are the other schools in District B-6.
Last year the boys and girls teams took first at the Ogallala meet.
