Two Longhorn Speakers Qualify for State

On March 22nd, the Chase County Speech team competed at the district level. After the completion of the meet, two speakers have qualified to compete at the state level in Kearney. Those speakers were Jasmine Johnson in Entertainment Speaking and Andrew Wiest in Humorous Prose and Serious Prose.
Also placing at the district meet but not qualifying for state was the group event, Oral Interpretation of Drama. Those members included Wiest, George Colton, Paige Nickless, and Jesus Juarez and they received 4th. Colton received 4th in both Serious Prose and Persuasive Speaking. In the event, Humourous Prose, Nickless was given the award of 6th. Also received 6th was Johnson in Program of Oral Interpretation.
Chloe Colton and Alyssa Schilke in Duet Acting, Annabelle Kimble in Program of Oral Interpretation, and Colt Majors in Poetry did not place but competed at the competition.
On Thursday, March 27th, Johnson and Wiest will travel to Kearney with their head coach Alex Schilke, and assistant coach Peyton Rowley to compete at Kearney High. The meet is set to begin at 8:00 am mountain time.
