After the conclusion of the 2024 and 2025 winter sports seasons, spring activities have begun.
On March 3rd, the girls’ track team started practice. The boys’ team began the following Wednesday, alongside the golf team. Both track teams are set to participate in more than twelve varsity and JV track meets. A significant change has been made for the track teams; they are moving to the Class B division for both boys and girls. As for the golf team, many participants went out, including the 2024 state qualifier Gavin Wisnieski. For 2025, 17 golfers are going out and will compete in 12 varsity and JV meets.
Not only have spring sports begun, but several extracurricular events are also coming up. The FFA Labor Auction is set to take place on March 18th at the school auditorium. This annual event is a significant fundraiser for the chapter, where students auction off their labor to community members. The funds raised will support various FFA activities, such as state, nationals, and projects throughout the year. The State FFA convention will take place on April 2nd in Lincoln.
On March 20th, SPVA Quiz Bowl will be held in Hershey. Chase County’s team has been preparing for this competition, where they will go against other schools in the South Platte Valley Association.
Another SPVA event, the Band and Choir concert, is scheduled for March 24th at Chase County. The Longhorns will also host the District Music competition on April 25th, both featuring performances from local high school bands, choirs, and soloists.
On the first day of March, Chase County’s student journalists entered in the State Competition, scheduled for April 28th in Norfolk. The Longhorns entered in various events, including Yearbook Development, Action Photography, Feature Photography, and more. The journalists are still waiting for the results, which they will receive by the end of March.
The school’s annual musical will take place on the weekend of May 3rd. This year’s play is “The Sound of Music,” directed by Choir Teacher David Rushing with the assistance of elementary teacher Jodie Liess.
Overall, Chase County High School is gearing up for a busy spring with many extracurricular activities and sports taking place.
