Sharon Lucille Walgren was born May 7, 1931 in Edgar, Nebraska to Clair and Ted Voorhees. At the age of six the family set up a new household in Wauneta, where Ted started the Federal Land Bank. Sharon grew up and attended school in Wauneta graduating from Wauneta High School in 1949. She dated her High School sweetheart throughout their high school years.
Upon graduating, Sharon went on to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln majoring in music. She studied for two years until deciding to return to Wauneta to marry her high school sweetheart, Robert Walgren on Nov. 11, 1951. The newly wed couple moved to San Diego where Robert enlisted in the Navy. To this Union, boys Rex and Scott were born in San Diego, California.
Returning to Wauneta, after three years of service, the couple started their careers in the grocery business building Walgrens Grocery, a staple of the community. Sharon taught music for one year at Wauneta High School. She sang for many weddings and funerals throughout the years and was the choir director for Wauneta Global Methodist Church for over 50 years. Her hobbies included playing bridge, singing, poker, and visiting with friends and family.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Rex (Kathy) and Scott (Karen); grandchildren, Jaime (Jason) Weiss, Jeremy (Crystal) Walgren, Raenelle (Chris) Thoms, Michael and Daniel Gardner, Renae Watkins and Carson (Jenna) and Chris (Mandy) Watt; 15 great-grandchildren, Jaysek, Jensyn, Weston, Jaylea, Molly, Payton, Cash, Ashton, Brylee, Camden, Libby, Kenzie, Charlie and Karson Dean Watt, and Braxton Bradbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Robert; her parents; sister, Marilyn; daughter-in-law Diane Walgren; and granddaughter, Katie Watt-Bradbury.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 28 at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 29 at Wauneta Global Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Loy officiating.
Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta, Nebraska.
