Commissioners meet Feb. 13

The Chase County Board of Commissioners & Board of Equalization held its monthly meeting on Feb. 13.
The first issue was brought up by Imperial resident Greg Dannatt. Dannatt wants to build a house on his property located at 335 Avenue. State law requires that houses can only be built along roads that are properly maintained. Dannatt’s property is 400 feet from the section of road in question. Dannatt is calling for his property to be maintained so he can build the house. Commissioners directed him to the public hearing to be held at the next meeting Feb. 27.
Discussion was held on the One-and-Six Year Road Plan, in relation to the overlay of Old Highway 6. It was suggested that additional funds from the highway buy-back could be used, with bid specs being prepared at a later date. Along with that road, there are 105 miles of county road that may need to be classified as “minimum maintenance.” The specific roads named were 745 Road and 321 Ave. extending west three miles, 746 Road and 321 Ave. extending west three miles, 320 Ave. and 736 Road extending south two miles, 323 Ave. and 736 Road extending north two miles, 740 Road and 326 Ave. extending east one mile, 727 Road and 344 Ave. extending north one mile and 738 Road and 345 Ave. extending south two miles.
The county’s road policy was then reviewed, with rates for mowing foliage being added to the policy. The policy on road damage was modified to identify “commercial business, farmer or individual.” It was also added that should foliage on private property create obstructions, the owner is responsible for removing said obstructions at the owner’s expense. The motion was carried and is to be added to the road department portion of the county website.
The last topic was on the acquisition of new furniture for use in the courtroom. The current furniture is old and they are looking for replacements. It was decided that the best option was a collection of padded chairs with an approximate cost of $8,000. The funds and logistics were agreed upon and will be presented to the board.
