Chase County girls beat SPVA foes on the road
Thursday Jan. 11 the Longhorn Girls Basketball Team (5-6) traveled to Perkins County to take on the Plainsmen (7-4).
The SPVA brackets had already been set for the tournament which starts on Monday, so this game will not have an impact on the seeting.
The Longhorns got on the board first, scoring the first five points of the game. It was over three minutes into the game before the Plainsmen could get on the board.
Chase County led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Plainsmen in each of the remaining quarters to take the win 39-27, improving the Longhorn record to (6-6) and giving the Lady Longhorns a four game winning streak.
Perkins County was having all kinds of trouble with the relentless pressure of the Longhorn defense. The Longhorns gathered 18 steals compared to just nine for the Plainsmen. The Horns scored 21 points off the turnovers, while the Plainsmen only scored 11.
The Longhorn defense was also big on the boards, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds to score six second chance points while Perkins County only had four offensive rebounds with no second chance points allowed.
The top scorer on the night was Olivia Spady with 14. Spady was also credited with five rebounds and assists and eight steals.
Perkins County only had three players get in the scoring column, with Madison Potts credited with 13.
In the first round of the SPVA tournament, CCS Girls earned the fourth seed and will host fifth seeded Kimball Monday night. Due to no school on Monday, this game was played Tuesday in Grant.
