Jason Jensen grew up in Dorchester, Nebraska, graduating high school in 2018.
He attended Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in K-12 Physical/Health Education in 2022.
Jensen has been involved in coaching both football and baseball in high school and college.
“I am currently teaching K, 5 - 6 grades PE and the assistant junior high football coach at Chase County Schools. This is my first full-time position, and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” said Jensen.
He said he chose to pursue education because it is one of the most important professions in the world, and he wanted to make an impact on young lives while teaching them life lessons.
“My goal as an educator is to build relationships with students because it helps them become comfortable with asking questions and voicing concerns. This will help my students be successful in my class,” Jensen said.
He went on to say he is looking forward to building relationships with staff members so he can learn from them and become a part of the family at CCS.
Jensen hit the ground running with a clear plan that will hopefully separate him as a teacher who is reaching for individuality. He has implemented a point system that includes a “Mr. Jensen versus students” structure.
“How this works is if students are meeting my expectations and doing what’s asked of them, they will get points for that day. If they don’t--I get the points. If the students have more points than me, then they earn a ‘Gameday Friday’,” said Jensen.
“I like implementing the points system in my classes because it motivates students to be on task, follow directions and follow my five student standards of safety, respect, positivity, enjoyment and growth,” he added.
The students in all the classes so far have done an excellent job with this system, and it has shown him the kind of students he has.
“I am truly blessed to have such amazing students,” he commended.
An epiphany
Since entering the world of education, Jensen said it has made him a better person by having a growth mindset and to be open to learning new ideas and concepts.
“I believe if you want to be an effective teacher, you have to be open to learning new things. This has applied to my personal life by having done multiple side jobs as well as moving into a new and unfamiliar town such as Imperial,” he said. “I hope to teach this idea of having that open mindset to each of my students.”
Jensen said he enjoys watching TV in his free time because it allows him to relax and wind down after the school day. He also loves to workout, walk his dog and compete in any sports, games or activities. When the weather is nice, he loves being outdoors. He is in the process of getting into fishing and hunting in this area.
“I want to thank everyone who has welcomed me into this great community of Imperial/Chase County Schools. I am extremely blessed to be surrounded with amazing people. I’m excited for what the future holds for me,” he said.
