Senior care staff gear up for Skilled Nursing Care Week

    It’s a week and a half away, but staff at the Imperial Manor and Parkview-Heights are getting ready for National Skilled Nursing Care Week.
    The special week, coordinated by the American Health Care Association, runs May 14-20.
    A large group of employees at Imperial’s senior care facilities were at Monday’s city council meeting to watch Mayor Craig Loeffler sign a proclamation designating May 14-20 as National Skilled Nursing Care Week in Imperial.
    This year’s theme is “Cultivate Kindness.”
    Lynne West, Manor and Parkview-Heights administrator, said they are excited to celebrate the exceptional staff and residents during this year’s National Skilled Nursing Care Week.
    “Imperial Manor and Parkview-Heights take pride in caring for our residents every day. We eagerly anticipate the end of the covid pandemic and the restrictions that our residents and staff had to endure,” she said.
    She and the staff are looking forward to social gatherings and finding something to celebrate each day during the special week.
    “We encourage our community to come visit and celebrate with our residents and staff,” she said.
    West noted that May 11 marks the “official” end of the covid pandemic on a national level.
    That prompted the staff to schedule an event even before National Skilled Nursing Care Week—a Mother’s Day Tea on Friday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m.
    Ladies attending are encouraged to wear church attire, hats and pearls, she said.
    During the actual week May 14-20, the staff is coordinating daily dress-in themes, such as crazy hair/hat day, tropical attire, mismatch day and throwback Thursday, she noted.
    Special food including BBQ and pizza lunches, along with breakfast burritos, are also in the works.
    The observance of National Skilled Nursing Care Week recognizes the important role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for elders and individuals with disabilities, West said.
    Each person in the long term and post-acute care community contributes to improving the quality of life for all residents by providing a home away from home that allows them to have the essential connections they need to thrive, she said.
    West noted this year’s celebration also coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Imperial Manor.
    She invites the public to stop in during the week May 14-20 and attend the May 12 Mother’s Day Tea.

Mayor’s Proclamation

Whereas, skilled nursing care centers throughout Nebraska will be celebrating National Skilled Nursing Care Week, beginning on Mother’s Day, May 14 through May 20, 2023. This year’s theme, “Cultivating Kindness,” is inspired by the many acts of kindness that happen in skilled nursing care centers every day; and,
Whereas, I urge all citizens to visit a loved one, family member or friend residing in a skilled nursing center and spend time participating in various activities to celebrate; and,
Whereas, the administration and leadership team at Imperial Manor-Parkview Heights is committed to quality health care, we take this moment to embrace the essence of the theme “Cultivating Kindness.” Let’s join our skilled nursing care center, their staff, volunteers, residents and their families and friends in celebrating this special week; and,
Now, therefore, I, Craig Loeffler, Mayor of the City of Imperial, declare the week of May 14 to 20, 2023, as National Skilled Nursing Care Week, a week to honor the vital role that skilled nursing care centers provide in caring for and protecting our most vulnerable citizens in our community.
